Welcome to local artist, Aga Kubish!

Aga Kubish Mamhilad

Accomplished artist Aga Kubish has opened her first studio here in Brecon House.

Aga, a printmaker and illustrator who specialises in creating highly detailed, large-scale lino prints of buildings and plants in the style of old engravings, and rich in textures created using pointillism (dotwork).

Aga, who came to the UK from Poland in 2018, was formerly based Iin Weston-super-Mare, Aga moved with her husband and her three children to Goytre a couple of months ago and found her studio here just weeks later.

“We realised we were spending all our free time as a family either in the Forest of Dean or, most often in Wales, so we thought we should move here!” says Aga.

“I knew I needed more space than my kitchen table because of the scale of my work, and I was so lucky to find this space so quickly – and just six minutes from the house!”

Aga needed to find a studio that could accommodate her work, measuring 1 metre x 0.5 metre, that then also has to dry. She says the 25m² studio is “perfect – lovely white walls and lots of light – perfect for just me”.

“I had been worried about being on an uninspiring industrial estate, but this park is amazing – oceans of green everywhere, so I feel totally connected to nature while working!” says Aga.

Aga says she had a “lovely viewing with Claire” and picked up the keys two days later.

“The team is so friendly and flexible, which is ideal for small businesses. It’s secure, there’s a hairdresser on site as well as various wellbeing businesses and the café too: if I need anything during the working day, it’s here – it’s like a small city! And I’m really excited to meet other members of the creative community here.”

Aga is starting to run monthly linocut workshops from August at her new studio.
